Blog #1: Steppin’ Out of the Comfort Zone

Outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens!

There’s this place that I like to stay at. It’s so comfortable there. Every once in awhile, people like to push or pull me out of there into some foreign land that I am unfamiliar with. I call my comfy place ‘the comfort zone’. The comfort zone is very safe and familiar. However, I’ve realized over time that not much of anything comes out of that place. So, I’ve been taking some trips outside of that place and it’s been scary as hell! Sometimes, I talk myself out of it. Other times I withstand the anxiousness and doubt to see if anything great comes out of it.

Even starting this blog website was a huge step out of my comfort zone. For a long time, I had been thinking and reflecting about what I can do to share my experiences and empower others. Each time however, I was faced with these thoughts that held me back. Thoughts like “Eh, Don’t nobody wanna hear what I have to say” or “Bruh, you’re mad shy, I know you’re not about to put yourself OUT there!

Welp, here I am. OUT there. Out here because my idea didn’t just go away or subside just because I decided to stay in my comfy place. As a matter of fact, I got even more curious. Even more hungry for what COULD happen if I just took that step.

Have you ever wanted to try something but you thought up a thousand different reasons why you shouldn’t? Ever thought about switching your major to something that everyone says “doesn’t really pay well”? Ever thought about applying for that job that required 2 years of experience even though you’ve never worked in your life? Ever thought about getting up to speak in front of a group of 50 people? Sometimes we’re faced with wanting to try something but end up being crippled by “what’s realistic” or fear.

But you have to ask yourself, what happens if I actually change my major and get a popping internship in that field? What happens if I actually get called back for an interview for that job I wasn’t qualified for? What if I get a standing ovation from the crowd? Ohhh… What if!? That’s the question that pushes and pulls us to step out of our comfort zone. It’s not to say that everything always works out there. It’s just to say, WHAT IF it does?

I’m only where I am today because of the steps I took outside of my comfort zone. So I guess I'll keep steppin'.
